Academy graduate backed to continue taking Wolves chance

H.Bueno won his place back from David Moller Wolfe and has kept it ever since, and he backed up that decision with an impressive display against Newcastle.

"I think Hugo's been really, really good since he's come in," the head coach said.

"Wolfe has played a number of games for us and has had a good opportunity and we've looked at almost everybody now in the games that we've had.

"I really do think Hugo's been very consistent and played at a really high level in all of the games that he's played."

H.Bueno joined Wolves in 2019 from small Spanish side CD Areosa for just £3,000 and worked with Edwards in the academy, before being promoted to the first team.

The head coach has always been a fan of H.Bueno, for his offensive work as well as his defensive qualities, considering the Spaniard started out as a forward before moving further back into defence as he developed in the club's academy.

"He's a good player," Edwards said.

"I know him from my previous life here and I really like him.

"I like both him and Wolfe, they're both really honest guys and there's really good competition in that position of the pitch.

"Maybe Wolfe is similar to one or two others when we're not finding the results that we want. We need to try and search for it a little bit then.

"Hugo gets the opportunity and he's worked extremely hard.

"He's missed one or two games with niggles and injuries as well, so maybe his chance may have come earlier, but he's performed really well in the last couple of games, so that's been a nice plus for us."

The head coach added: "We've always really liked him.

"I remember him making an immediate impact, and left-footed players as well are obviously a bit more rare, so they do stand out a little bit more.

"I'm not surprised, he's obviously doing really, really well and he's done great so far in his career.

"He's got a real tenacious side as well and he wants to defend. He's got both sides of his game."
