The one-frame knockout tournament – which features all of the players in the world's top 64 – gets under way in Blackpool this evening.
And world No 59 Gunnell, 39, from Telford, has been handed a winnable first round clash against young Welsh star Jamie Jones, who is currently ranked No 44.
That match is scheduled to take place in the afternoon session at Blackpool Tower tomorrow, with the winner returning in the evening to play in the last 32.
The exciting format sees each match decided by just one frame, which lasts a maximum of 10 minutes – with a 20-second shot clock for the first five, dropping to 15 seconds for the last five.
Pairings for each round are decided by an FA Cup-style random draw, with the eventual winner pocketing a cheque for £32,000.
Former world championship finalist Nigel Bond won the inaugural event last year, defeating Robert Milkins in the final.
