The 23-year-old has endured a difficult year after undergoing surgery last summer following a knee injury he picked up in August.

That knock prevented him from moving on loan at the time and the midfielder missed the majority of the campaign, before returning and making just three appearances.

The Mali international, who originally signed on loan in 2022 before making a permanent switch, has struggled to hold down a place in the Wolves starting XI during his time at Molineux.

He did not travel with the first team for their pre-season training camp in Portugal and it is understood he is likely to leave on loan this summer.

Wolves are working on securing him a move, while the club would like to make an addition in that area of the pitch.

They are still working on the signing of forward Jhon Arias from Fluminense and were closing in on a £15million deal.

That is still yet to get over the line but Wolves remain confident of striking a deal for the Colombian international as they aim to bolster Vitor Pereira's attacking options.

Meanwhile, Jose Sa has suffered a minor eye injury during Wolves' training camp on the Algarve.

The goalkeeper did not feature against Santa Clara in the behind closed doors training game on Tuesday, which Wolves lost 2-1, as Dan Bentley and Tom King played in either half of that fixture.

It is understood that Sa has been ruled out of further training games during Wolves' camp in Portugal but the injury is understood to be minor and not serious.

The Portuguese shot-stopper is expected to be available again soon as Wolves return home for further pre-season friendlies, before then travelling to Spain to take on Girona.
