Gareth Ainsworth in pole position to become new Shrewsbury Town head coach
Gareth Ainsworth is in pole position to become the new Shrewsbury Town head coach, the Shropshire Star understands.
Town have been looking for a new boss since Paul Hurst was sacked more than a week ago after Salop lost 2-1 at Salford in the FA Cup.
Town went to Burton on Saturday with interim coach Sean Parrish in charge and lost 2-0 against their relegation rivals.
Salop seem to have turned to the 51-year-old due to the outstanding job he did at Wycombe Wanderers.
Although Ainsworth is now the leading contender for the job it is understood a deal has not yet been agreed.
It is believed he wants to bring his long-term assistant manager Richard Dobson with him.
Meanwhile, Shrewsbury's League One game against Wrexham has been moved forward.
The game was initially meant to take place on Saturday, January 18, but now it has been moved forward to take place on Thursday, January, 16 at a kick-off time of 8pm.
