Homes bid for Telford factory site
More than 160 homes look set to be built on the site of one of Telford's most famous factories.
Outline plans for 165 homes on the former Ever Ready battery site in Dawley are recommended to be given the go-ahead by planners next week.
The 10-acre site on the edge of Telford Town Park, has been empty since the factory was demolished in June 1995.
The factory closed, with the loss of 204 jobs, in February 1994 – and now all that is left to mark its existence are the metal gates, as the site has reverted to a grassy field.
But the land could soon become home to two and three storey detached, semi-detached and terraced houses with between two and five bedrooms.
Black Country Properties Ltd, based at Stafford Park in Telford, wants to get the new build underway next year.
Work has already started on the site of the former White Hart pub, which was next to the factory, to build 14 new homes.
Residents are concerned about how Hinkshay Road will cope with the increase in traffic. The road, which is narrow in places, is now the signposted route for visitors to Wonderland in Telford Town Park, as well as Telford Hornets Rugby Club.
