Letter: Scandal of BBC?waste

For how much longer must the public have the TV licence fee extorted from them upon pain of a criminal record?

The BBC Trust has clearly demonstrated that they cannot be 'trusted' to do anything other than waste licence payers money.

Not content with squandering around £100 million on a failed digital scheme, the BBC then went on to overpay outgoing staff to the tune of £25 million to 150 outgoing executives – £2 million more than their contracts stipulated - between 2009 and 2012. These were contracts that were probably over generous in the first place and more than could be expected in the private sector.

The technology exists to produce TV sets with a card slot and if the BBC is such fabulous value for money they would have no trouble getting viewers to subscribe.

The way that the public is forced to subscribe should have no place in a democracy.
