16. Randlay, 1978
This picture was carried on the front page of the Shropshire Star of July 21, 1978, with the caption: 'A cheeky greeting for Morecambe and Wise from Mrs Flo Gittens, wife of Councillor Joe Gittens, chairman of Wrekin District Council.' Joe Gittens is on the right. The accompanying story began: 'Hundreds of Telford shoppers queued for up to two hours today to see Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise open the new 7-Eleven store at Randlay Centre. First through the door was Mrs Helen Pinfield of Randlay, who had been waiting since 8.30am to see her favourite comedians. And Eric and Ernie did not disappoint her. The two comedians were at their very best as Eric apologised for cutting the buttons off Mrs Pinfield's coat instead of the red tape. Then the shoppers crowded their way into the store as Eric and Ern signed copies of two of their books.' | Shropshire Star
