5. Charlton Arms Hotel
The reception area of the Charlton Arms Hotel following a major internal remodelling. The transformation, featured in the Shropshire Star on November 14, 1970, revealed a refreshed ground floor ahead of its official reopening later that month. While the redesign introduced a new reception desk and modernised layout, the character of the Open Road bar was said to remain intact, although the original fountain had been removed. | Shropshire Star

6. Wellington Boys Modern School
December 1970: Fifth-year pupils from Wellington Boys Modern School display furniture they made using country craft techniques as part of their CSE examinations. The work was later used to assess their abilities before being taken home by the students. Pictured are Steve Doodson, Frank Beckett, Kevin Cartwright, Stuart Leech, Andrew Williams and Glenn Jones. | Shropshire Star

7. Ercall Junior School
Ercall Junior School at Barn Farm appears in the final stages of completion ahead of opening after the summer holidays. The new building, captured on July 9, 1970 and published the following day in the Shropshire Star, was shown replacing Prince’s Street School, marking the end of a long campaign for improved facilities in the area. The modern low-rise design was noted for its contrast with the older pitched roofs and chimneys of its predecessor. | Shropshire Star

8. Shropshire Star
September 1970: Children of Ercall Junior School, newly opened that year to replace the former Prince’s Street School. The Victorian building went on to become the Belfrey Theatre and Arts Centre. The classroom scene captures pupils with their teacher at her desk on the left, dressed in a fashionable mini-skirt, with the blackboard just visible to the right. A striking reminder of the passage of time, these pupils would now be well into adulthood. | Shropshire Star
