Step back to 1962 and see Shropshire as it looked more than 60 years ago.
From quiet village streets and country lanes to busy town centres, schools, railway stations and workplaces, these photographs capture familiar places at a time when the county was beginning to change.
For some, they will bring back memories of childhood, old shops and places that have long since vanished; for others, they offer a glimpse of a Shropshire they never knew.

29. A new future for Radbrook Hall
Radbrook Hall Hotel in Shrewsbury is pictured on July 23, 1962, when plans were under way to give the property a new purpose. The Licensed Victuallers National Homes Association intended to convert the hall into administrative and living quarters and build 24 bungalows in its 11-acre grounds, creating a home for retired or distressed publicans. What do you remember about Radbrook Hall? Did you know about its time as a home for publicans? | Shropshire Star archive

30. A rooftop view over Pride Hill
This rooftop view looks up Pride Hill in Shrewsbury on June 7, 1962, with St Mary’s Church standing out among the buildings and Maddox department store on the right in the foreground. At the top of the hill, work appears to be under way on the demolition of the Crown Hotel, which was pulled down that month. What other familiar buildings and businesses can you spot from this unusual vantage point? Do you remember Pride Hill before the changes of the 1960s? | Shropshire Star archive

31. A remarkably quiet Cheshire Street
Cheshire Street, Market Drayton, is captured on a real photographic postcard from 1962, in a scene that looks remarkably peaceful compared with the busy street of today. Shared by Dave Francis, the photograph appears to have been taken early in the morning, with just one female cyclist making her way along the road. Look closely and there are plenty of details to spot, from Oakleys agricultural shop and The Oak pub to the domed Town Hall, Morris’s tobacconists, Beresfords cycle shop and the Silverdale Co-operative Society. Can you remember any of these businesses? What else can you spot in this wonderful old view of Cheshire Street? | Historic postcard scene courtesy of Dave Francis

32. Sabrina gets a safer spot in Bridgnorth
Sabrina, the Goddess of the Severn, is pictured in March 1962 as she was moved from outside the entrance to Bridgnorth Castle grounds to a safer position inside the park. For nearly 80 years she had surveyed the scene, but reversing motorists had repeatedly bumped the statue, prompting the town council to find her a more dignified berth. Do you remember seeing Sabrina in her old position? Can you remember when she was moved? | Shropshire Star archive
