15. Newport, c.1920-1930
This postcard comes from the collection of the late Malcolm Miles, a renowned Newport local historian. It is unused, with no postmark, message or address. A handwritten note, possibly by Malcolm, reads: “Circa 1920–1930, probably a May Day procession proceeding down St Mary Street from Lower Bar, Newport.”

16. Tong, 1959
May Day was celebrated in town and country on 1 May 1959. At Tong, these black and white cottages provided an ideal backdrop for schoolchildren performing the annual dance.
