There was plenty happening across Shropshire in 1974. New roads and bridges were taking shape, Telford was growing at pace, villages and market towns carried on with everyday life, and communities came together for everything from school prize days and sporting triumphs to fundraising, festivals and local campaigns.
These archive photographs capture a county in the midst of change, while preserving the ordinary moments that often become the most treasured memories - neighbours chatting outside their homes, children heading off on school trips, shoppers stopping for lunch, gardeners planting the future, and familiar faces gathering in pubs, churches and village streets.
Whether you remember the miners' strike, the excitement of election year, a visit from Ronnie Lane's travelling show, or simply recognise a long-lost street scene, these photographs offer a fascinating glimpse of Shropshire as it was more than 50 years ago.
Take a trip back to 1974 and see how many places, faces and memories you can recognise, and don’t forget to share your memories with us in the comments.
