18. Wrekin College, Wellington, 1967
A special moment at Wrekin College, Wellington, in March 1967 as head boy David Franklin and headmaster Mr R H Dahl proudly show a handmade cricket bat destined for a royal gift. The bat was to be presented to the Queen for Prince Andrew, with keen cricketer David chosen for the honour. 19. New Street, Wellington, 1967
A familiar Wellington street scene from April 1967, with New Street looking much as it would have been known to generations of local shoppers. 20. Trench, 1967
A new era of convenience shopping arrived in Trench in September 1967 with the opening of the Spar Foodliner in Stanmore Drive. The 3,000 sq ft supermarket promised "one stop shopping at its most modern", with a very unusual special guest planned for the opening - Brooke Bond TV chimp Freddie. However, it appears Judy the chimp ended up taking centre stage instead! A wonderful reminder of the colourful promotions and characters that once accompanied new shop openings. Do you remember visiting the Spar Foodliner, or the excitement when a new supermarket came to your area? | Shropshire Star archive
