Youths spotted 'interfering' with telegraph pole in Shropshire town

The incident occurred in Broseley.

Police in Broseley have warned parents to speak to their children following reports that youths were tampering with a telegraph pole in the town.

The Much Wenlock & Broseley Safer Neighbourhood Team said they received reports of youths “interfering with a telegraph pole” on Wilkinson Avenue.

The SNT said: “While this may appear harmless, telegraph poles form part of critical telecommunications infrastructure and can pose significant safety risks if damaged or destabilised.

“Climbing, shaking or tampering with poles can cause structural weakness, resulting in the pole becoming unsafe and potentially collapsing. There is also a risk of injury, as well as disruption to telephone and broadband services for residents.

“Parents and guardians are encouraged to speak with young people about the dangers associated with interfering with utility infrastructure and the potential consequences of their actions.”

The SNT said following the reports, BT attended the location and carried out checks on the telegraph pole. They have confirmed that the pole is secure and safe.

“Thank you to those who reported the matter. If you witness any further incidents of this nature, please report them to the police,” the SNT added.
