We love living in this peaceful village with greenery and lovely shops but fear for the future

Wombourne locals weigh in on what they appreciate most about living there

Nestled in South Staffordshire, Wombourne is a rather large village with a peaceful atmosphere and a population of about 14,000 residents according to recent estimates.

The village has lots of gorgeous scenery, with lots of amenities that locals enjoy.

According to Rightmove, the average house price in the village has been £344,251 over the last year.

The large village is the perfect mix of having all that you need, but away from the bigger towns and cities of the West Midlands.

We headed down to Wombourne this week, to find out what locals think of the area and what it’s really like to live there.

Many were keen to share how much they appreciated their neighbours, but there were fears of the village growing larger.

Darrel Smith, 47, from Wombourne said: “I love the people, I love the community, everyone helps each other. It’s a great village, with great pubs, great walks. I love it.”

Regarding Wombourne's possible growth, Darrel said he would be happy to see plans for additional houses in the village.

He said: “You do need houses, as long as they are affordable. I’ve got two children myself, so as long as they can afford it when they’re older. You do need more houses in Wombourne because Wombourne is growing. I know it’s a big problem for other people, but for me it’s not really a problem.”

Meanwhile Trevor Nash, 62, who has lived in Wombourne for the past year, said he appreciated the village’s peace and tranquillity.

Trevor said: “I feel at peace.”

He praised locals for their pleasant nature: “They are actually very helpful, generous. And, to be fair, very pleasant.”

For Amanda Slater who works at Greenside Parlour she appreciates Wombourne’s friendly nature as well, and it is something she is prideful of as she has lived in the area for the past 27 years.

“Great environment. We've got a loads of different shops now coming into the village.

“We've got hairdressers, charity shops. We have our ice cream parlour now that has recently opened, which is where we are.

“I've lived here 27 years. It's been great. I brought my children up. It’s a lovely area.

“Everyone’s friendly. The area's got a lot bigger over the last few years, so we don't know as many people as we used to. But we love coming out to the village.”

Despite Wombourne’s many positive attributes she shares that she’s fearful of further expansion of the village.

Amanda said: “It is a concern. Having my own children come through the schools in the area, the crowding, the the lack of doctor's facilities, parking is a huge issue in the village.

“So yes, having more housing is a bit of a concern, especially when they're building on greenbelt and not accommodating other areas.”
