Fire crews battle large blaze at derelict care home in Whitchurch - public told to shut windows and avoid area
Firefighters were asking residents to avoid the area and to close windows and doors
Residents in Whitchurch were being urged to close their windows and doors as firefighters tackled a large building fire.
Firefighters were in attendance at a large fire in Whitchurch at around 5pm on Sunday (June 14).

Local residents reported the fire involved the former Edgeley House care home, which has become derelict since the business closed in 2021.
The 22,000-square-foot building, which went up for auction last year, was the victim of a blaze in April 2024 which eventually required four crews from around the county to extinguish.

While the fire was in progress, a spokesperson for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said a number of fire crews were attending a “large building fire in Whitchurch”.

They added: “Please stay away from the area, close windows and doors, do not fly drones.”
A later update from the fire service said: “We have five fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, drone and light pumping unit at the scene along with specialist officers.”
Live traffic data suggested that drivers were facing delays along the Whitchurch bypass close Edgeley.
