We joined England fans celebrating first World Cup 2026 match win at Shifnal pub - as it happened
England won their first match at the 2026 World Cup after kicking off against Croatia tonight (June 17).
The 2026 World Cup is is set to be the biggest in history - and England’s part in it got off to a great start with a 4-2 win against Croatia tonight (June 17).
The Three Lions, kicked-off their first match in Texas, after coming into the tournament as one of the favourites to go all the way. Many consider this their best chance at gold since their last success, at home in 1966.
Millions of people across the country will be tuned in, but with the time zones in the United States, Mexico and Canada, kick off times might not be too friendly for those of us watching from the UK - especially on a week night where many have work the next day!
However, the late kick off never shifted the team spirit for many as we joined fans as they gather to watch the match at The Winking Frog in Shifnal and watched England secure their first win - and Harry Kane match Gary Lineker’s World Cup scoring record - though there were some nail biting moments along the way!
