Network Rail confirms when railway will reopen after train derailed between Wolverhampton and Shrewsbury
Network Rail has issued a statement after a train derailed in Wolverhampton.
Network Rail said engineers will work to open the railway “as soon as possible” after a freight train derailed in Oxley, Wolverhampton last night (Tuesday 5 May).
Network Rail added that there were no injuries or other trains involved.
According to West Midlands Railway, the incident happened between Wolverhampton and Bilbrook, where a low-speed derailment blocked all lines and damaged overhead electric wires.

Support structures holding the wires were also knocked down, leaving the route unsafe for trains.
As a result, there will be delays and cancellations Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton for the rest of the day. The disruption is affecting services in both directions, with knock-on delays expected across the wider network.
Repair work is expected to continue into Thursday, May 7, as engineers assess and fix the damage.
Network Rail said today: “A low‑speed freight train derailment happened in Oxley, Wolverhampton, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday 5 May.
“One wagon derailed and there were no injuries or other trains involved.
“The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) is currently on site. Once initial checks are complete, engineers will assess the damage and the work needed to reopen the railway as soon as possible.
“Services will be disrupted for the remainder of today and passengers should check National Rail Enquiries or with their train operator for the latest travel information.”
Passengers travelling between Birmingham New Street and Shrewsbury are being advised to change at Wolverhampton or Telford Central and continue their journey using replacement buses and modified train services.
Transport officials are urging people to check journey planners before travelling and consider delaying trips where possible.
