Telford robber, 21, stole luxury Cartier and Breitling watches worth more than £7,000 from Cash Converters - and had an axe

A robber has admitted stealing Cartier and Breitling watches worth more than £7,000 from Cash Converters - and having an axe in his possession.

Robson Smith, aged 21, stole the luxury watches from the shop in New Street, Wellington on November 11 last year.

One of the watches was made by Cartier and the other was a Breitling Galactic 32. The combined value of the two timepieces was £7,189.98. He had a hand axe in his possession on the same day.

Smith, of Victoria Road, Wellington, pleaded guilty at Shrewsbury Crown Court, sitting at Telford Justice Centre, to robbery and possession of an article with a blade or point.

Danny Smith, mitigating, asked Judge Trevor Meegan to adjourn the sentence for psychiatric and pre-sentence reports.

The judge agreed to the suggestion, setting a sentencing date of May 22.

He told Smith: “It’s in your interests to co-operate with the probation service and with the psychiatrist so the judge has got all the information.”

It is expected that Smith will appear via video link from prison for his sentencing. He was remanded in custody in the meantime.
