Telford roadworks to improve pedestrian safety

Work is taking place on a road improvement scheme in an area of Telford to improve safety for pedestrians.
The work in Madeley is being funded by Madeley Regeneration Partnership and will be carried out in two phases.
A zebra crossing will be built on the existing paved area next to the Anstice Memorial Building tomake the area safer for pedestrians.
The second phase will involve 20mph speed limit along High Street. The exact length of this is yet to be determined but it is likely to be from Park Avenue to Court Street.
Councillor Shaun Davies, Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet member for neighbourhood services, said: "I would like to thank residents in advance for their patience and would like to apologise for any disruption or inconvenience that is caused.
"We have listened to concerns expressed by residents and this two phase scheme will ultimately slow traffic down and make it easier for pedestrians to cross the road."
Councillor Paul Watling, chairman of Madeley Regeneration Partnership, said: "This will make the crossing safer for everybody including children and families."
The work started on February 16 and is expected to last for four weeks, although these timescales could be affected by the weather. Traffic will be managed through the works using stop/go boards.
