Lidl and Costa plans approved for development on outskirts of Telford
A new development on the outskirts of Telford will bring a Lidl supermarket, drive-thru coffee shop and petrol station after plans were approved.

Telford & Wrekin's planning department have approved the proposal from Quora for the land off Redhill Way and the A5 in Redhill.
The development includes a Lidl supermarket, drive-thru Costa coffee shop, a M&S retail unit and a BP charging station, while there is an outline application for a care home.
The scheme will see 185 car park spaces created, while there is vehicular, pedestrian and servicing access.
“The proposal will enable the investment that is required to develop the site improving the visual appearance and providing substantial investment in the area and job opportunities,” said the Harris Partnership Ltd (Architects), who prepared a design, access, site waste management and sustainability report to Telford & Wrekin Council.
“The site has been cleared and ready for development to commence, with construction of the residential to the east already ongoing including amendments to the A5, new access into the site and road network.

“An existing well-established infrastructure and transport links to the local area exist around the site which is in easy walking distance of the nearby residential streets, a pedestrian crossing is located on the A5.”
The developers first met with planning officers in October 2022 before the application was submitted last year. Following an extension of time proposal, the scheme has now been give the green light.
“The proposed units have been designed to make the most efficient use of the site and to complement each other providing a contemporary and sustainable development,” added the report.
“The shape has been designed for flexibility and ease of trading for the various occupiers. The scale of the proposal has been driven by the objective to address local need and meet customer expectations.

“In design terms the relationship of the site and the new units within its setting is an important guiding consideration.”
The care home, meanwhile, will be to the north of the site and would consist of 66 bedrooms and 20 parking spaces, with access from the residential estate road. It will be surrounded by gardens and an amenity area, with the design of the building aimed it being in keeping with the end users’ corporate image.
The proposal received no objections, with Donnington & Muxton Parish Council saying it was pleased the developers spoke to them prior to submitting the application after concerns were raised about there being no provision for community facilities.
