HMO plan for Telford house
A Better Tomorrow helps people to recover from issues with drugs and alcohol, mental health, and domestic abuse.
A Telford-based organisation's chief executive has assured the council that it will use a house in Wildwood as an HMO for only four people.
Woodside-based A Better Tomorrow has helped more than 3,700 clients through recovery from issues with drugs and alcohol and mental health.
ABT currently leases and manages a four bed property in Woodside where it issues agreements with residents. It is among 120 units of accommodation on its books.
Now an application has been made on ABT's behalf to confirm with Telford & Wrekin Council that its use of the property as an HMO is covered by permitted development rights.
Scott Morgan, the chief executive of A Better Tomorrow (ABT Group) has told planners that the not for profit organisation will be managing the property as supported shared accommodation from the September 1, 2026.
"Residents share communal facilities including the kitchen, bathroom, and living space.
"Each resident occupies the property under an individual licence agreement issued by A Better Tomorrow.
"Staff from A Better Tomorrow visit the property regularly to provide support and carry out management duties. No member of staff resides at the property.
"I confirm that at no point will the number of residents at any of the above property exceed four individuals."
A Better Tomorrow established a self-contained hub within the community at the Park Lane Community Centre in the Woodside area of Telford in 2018.
The organisation states that its clients are committed to maintaining their abstinence from illicit drugs and alcohol, getting support for their mental health, or finding a safe home after becoming homeless or fleeing domestic abuse.
The planning application for the property at Wildwood is available to view on the council's planning portal with the reference TWC/2026/0626
