Police find £300k of drugs after Telford car stop

The driver was pulled over after being seen travelling “at speed” on the M54.

Police discovered nearly £300,000 of class A drugs following a car stop in Telford.

West Mercia Police said that a 33-year-old man had been arrested, and remains in custody.

The force said that the arrest took place yesterday (Sunday 12 April) at around 9.30pm when a car was seen driving at speed on the M54.

A spokesman said: “Officers pulled the car over on Castle Farm Way in Priorslee, where a search of the vehicle was carried out. Wraps of class A drugs (cocaine), two mobile phones and cash were found during the search.

“The driver, a man aged 33, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

“A further search was carried out at a property in Dudley in the West Midlands, linked to the man, where around £10,300 in cash was found along with an estimated £290,000 worth of suspected class A drugs, a knuckle duster and bladed articles.

“The man was then further arrested on suspicion of being in possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in police custody as further enquiries are carried out.”

Detective Sergeant Andy Pond said: “A significant quantity of class A drugs has been taken off the streets as a result of this stop, and our investigation is very much ongoing.

"This arrest shows the value of proactive policing on our road network, where officers are able to identify suspicious behaviour and act quickly.

"We remain committed to disrupting the supply of harmful drugs in our communities and will continue to pursue those who choose to engage in this type of criminal activity.”
