Telford MP launches fifth international Punjabi dance competition

The fifth International Giddha Competition returns in June

Telford’s MP, Shaun Davies, has helped launch the fifth International Giddha Competition at an event in Parliament earlier this month.

The Punjabi dance competition for women was started five years ago in Telford but has gone from strength to strength, organisers said, and will take place next month in Birmingham for 2026.

Giddha is a traditional folk dance for women who originate from Punjab and is an energetic and colourful performance.

Organiser Mokesh Mehmi, along with Horsehay & Lightmoor councillor Raj Mehta, were in Parliament at the beginning of the month to launch the event along with Shaun Davies MP and Lord Kuldip Sohata.

He said the Fifth International Giddha Competition takes place on June 28, at The Elgar Concert Hall at the University of Birmingham.
