A Shropshire man is due to take part in a Guinness World Record attempt which aims to get the largest gathering of liver transplant patients together.

The event was set to take place at Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham today to help one of the UK's leading liver units celebrate a medical milestone.

The Birmingham Liver Unit has carried out more than 3,000 liver transplant operations in the last 26 years.

Ian Johnson, of Church Stretton, was a successful businessman who had a transplant after becoming ill. Post operation he said he realised there were more important things in life.

He said: "I was feeling unwell and a gypsy woman sold something to my wife. The gypsy told her not to worry about me."

After that time, he kept finding white feathers everywhere.
