A Shropshire woman has left tens of thousands of pounds to local charities in her £1.8 million will.

Dorothy Maud Record, of Hope Cottage, at Twitchen, near Craven Arms, died in September last year.

Her will included a number of donations to local charities. She left £10,000 each to Macmillan Nurses, Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Sue Ryder Foundation, Hope House Children's Hospice and Help The Aged.

Her will shows she left an estate of £1.88 million gross, which is £1.87 million net.

Nuala O'Kane, appeals director of Hope House Children's Hospice, said she was delighted by the donation because it would help lots of people who required treatment there.

She said: "We depend largely upon voluntary income to fund our vital services and donations such as this are essential.

"We must raise at least £3.5 million each year to fund our hospices."
