Keepers are working to make the animals comfortable in sweltering heat
Animals at a Shropshire zoo have been basking in the sunshine and enjoying ice lollies during the heatwave.
Creatures great and small at Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World are being given extra care and creative enrichment as temperatures soar.
Keepers at the 40-acre attraction near Telford have introduced additional pools of water, shaded rest areas and a variety of cooling treats as they try to keep all the animals comfortable in the sweltering heat.

The zoo’s black-and-white ruffed lemurs have been enjoying frozen pears, while marmosets have been keeping busy with giant ice cubes filled with tasty treats.
They have also been spotted fishing for mealworms submerged in bowls of water, encouraging natural behaviours while helping them stay cool.

Across the zoo, animals are being closely monitored, with tailored approaches to suit each species and their individual needs.

“Many of our animals are quite happy in the warmer weather, but they definitely appreciate a bit of extra help to stay cool,” said Will Dorrell, owner of Hoo Zoo and Dinosaur World.
“Frozen treats are always a big hit and it is great to see them enjoying these little additions to their daily routine.”
