Shimmering night-time event raises more than £20k for Shropshire charity

More than 350 people lined up to take part in the special event.

Hundreds of Severn Hospice supporters stepped out in style and shimmered the night away – raising more than £22,000 for local hospice care.

The charity’s Shimmer Walk took place in Telford on April 25, and organisers say the event was both uplifting and deeply moving.

First held in 2025, Shimmer Walk saw more than 350 walkers take to the paths around Charlton School, in Wellington and the nearby Apley Woods.

Along the route, participants were treated to foam, bubbles and thousands of twinkling lights, to creating a magical atmosphere in the woods and a night to remember.

Dressed in sequins, sparkles and glowing fairy lights, walkers set off at 9pm, lighting up the evening as they made their way through the course.

Severn Hospice event fundraiser Lizzy Ellis said: “It was wonderful to see so many of our supporters laughing, walking and sharing stories as they took part in Shimmer Walk.

“We had wonderful weather: there was not a cloud in the sky, and everyone looked spectacular.

“It was the perfect mix of remembrance and fun,” she added. “And the feedback we have had has been incredible. So many people told us how much they valued the chance to pause in our hospice gardens, light a candle and reflect on loved ones who are deeply missed but always remembered.

“We are so grateful to all our supporters and their friends and families who have raised such a fabulous amount of money. The kindness and generosity shown means we can continue to be there for local people when they need us most. Every step taken and every light shone will help make a difference.”
