Mr Schofield, 37, said: "The last time I won it was £2.50 and I jokingly announced to Sue we'd won the Lottery.

"I said exactly the same thing this time but as Sue thought I was being silly, she didn't believe me."

He added: "I told her to hold onto the ticket as I shouted out the numbers and letters from the raffle code."

Mrs Schofield, 47, added: "We must have checked the numbers at least three times using our phones and the internet by which time it was really late.

"We called the National Lottery claimline which recapped on all the winning numbers and ours was mentioned. Then we had to hold our nerve until 9am the next morning to officially make our claim."

Mr Schofield is a delivery driver and his wife is a supervisor at Cleaning ISS Facilities Services. People in Oswestry today wished the couple well .

The raffle guaranteed to make 25 Britons £1 million richer by matching three letters and six numbers.
