Shropshire couple get green light to open 'dream' micropub in village near Shrewsbury
The local authority has approved the plans
A Shropshire couple have been given permission to open a new micro-pub in a village near Shrewsbury.
Simon and Rhea Alton previously revealed plans to open The Bunkum Tap, a small independent venue on The Parade in Bayston Hill that they say will champion quality drinks and relaxed conversation.
The pair - who both have day jobs in public relations - said the little pub would have “no TV screens or loud music” and would sell drinks and snacks from independent Shropshire producers.

The proposals include seating for around 30 people and the Altons say they aim to create a “calm, sociable atmosphere”.
Although their applications request flexible opening hours, they intend to operate from Thursday to Sunday, closing at 9pm.
“The hours in the planning and licensing application simply give us flexibility should we want to host the occasional community event, tasting evening or charity fundraiser without needing to apply for variations in the future,” Simon said.

Now Shropshire Council has given the pair the green light.
Approving the plan, a council planning officer said the scheme would “support the vitality and viability of the local area” and “provide a valued community facility, fostering social interaction and contributing positively to the local economy”.
The full application and decision notice are available to view online on Shropshire Council’s planning portal using reference number 26/02667/FUL.
