Shrewsbury Colleges Group said there had been 'strong growth' in the number of students studying at the group over the last five years.

As a result it said it is now looking to recruit more teaching and support staff to work across the three campuses in Shrewsbury.

In addition to the increased number of staff the college said that improvements will also begin at the Welsh Bridge and London Road campuses to upgrade facilities and increase the number of on-site classrooms, workshops, and study space.

James Staniforth, Principal and CEO of the college said: "The increasing number of students coming to the college is testimony to the excellent reputation the college has for the range of courses and the quality of teaching and support we offer our students.

"In our most recent student survey 96 per cent of students said they would recommend the college to a friend.

"The college had around 3,100 full-time students at merger in 2017 and we confidently expect to enrol around 4,200 students this September.

"Therefore, we need more staff to maintain that quality for the students joining us in the future.

"We want to ensure that we maintain current student-to-teacher classroom ratios and make sure that students are supported alongside their studies."

Donna Lucas, Vice Principal for People at the college said: "The college is already one of the biggest employers in the local community with 550 permanent members of staff and, with the increase in student numbers, we are looking for additional teaching and support staff.

"In our most recent survey 97 per cent of staff said they were proud to work at the college. Staff know that they make a real impact on the lives of young people and adults in our area and that this is hugely rewarding, but the college also offers a wide range of benefits to staff, as well as having paid at least 16.5 per cent pay awards over the last three and a half years.

"We welcome applications from those with experience, as well as those looking to change careers or looking for their first role.

"In some of the subject areas, the college will also support people from industry backgrounds who mightn’t have any prior teaching experience to achieve the necessary qualifications to go alongside their previous work experience."
