Visitors to this year's Shropshire County Show will be able to travel to the venue in style - by riverboat or an old-fashioned red bus.

Show committee members today said the move to bring in extra transport followed "substantial" traffic problems experienced at last year's show.

Transport will be on hand in Shrewsbury on both show days, May 14 and 15, to ensure the thousands of visitors get to the Berwick Road showground.

A double-decker red bus will be transporting passengers from Shrewsbury bus station to the ground and a single-decker red bus will be making its way to and from Shrewsbury train station.

The buses will go every 15 minutes according to demand with the double-decker making a diversion to avoid a low bridge on its return journeys.

The Sabrina boat will also be ferrying passengers from Victoria Quay on both show days from 9am to 6pm.

Keith Brown, show trustee, said: "Last year the transport was a problem so we decided to arrange extra transport this year and are also setting aside an area for cyclists to leave their bikes securely on site."
