Popular Shrewsbury restaurant which closed last month to be taken over by landlords of neighbouring pub
New bosses say they want to “keep its spirit alive”
A popular town centre restaurant which closed recently is being taken over by the landlords of a neighbouring pub, it has been announced.
House of the Rising Sun in Shrewsbury will be owned by Chris and James Wolstenholme, who run The Bull Inn, Butcher Row, according to a post on the pub’s social media.
They insist their aim is not the change what people have loved about House of the Rising Sun, but to build on it.

The announcement on The Bull Inn’s page said: “The rumours are true. We’re so excited to finally make it official.
“Being just across the road from The Bull, this feels like a natural next step for us and an expansion that we’re incredibly excited about.
“House of The Rising Sun has been the backdrop to so many incredible nights, celebrations and memories over the years, and that’s something we have so much respect for.
“Our aim isn’t to change what people have loved about it—it’s to build on it, keep that spirit alive, and create many more unforgettable memories for years to come.
“We’ve got some exciting ideas that we’ll be sharing soon, while staying true to what has made House of The Rising Sun such a special place.
“We can’t wait to welcome you and begin this next chapter together.”
House of the Rising Sun, a world street food restaurant and cocktail bar, and its sister cocktail bar The Libertine both closed last month after owner Sam Taylor said the hospitality industry faces “a troubling time”.
House of the Rising Sun opened in 2013, two years after The Libertine.

When he announced the closure of the venues, Mr Taylor said: “Unfortunately, so much of the fun and joy that once came with running bars and restaurants has been lost.
“Hospitality is in a troubling time, and I can’t see anything being done to support it in the coming years.
“Despite that, I truly loved these businesses and will miss them very much.
“’Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Thank you for everything.”
