'Full-to-capacity' Shrewsbury nursery looks to expand amid 'huge demand' for services
A "full-to-capacity" nursery in Shrewsbury is hoping to expand in order to welcome more children amid a "huge demand" for bigger facilities.
The owners of The Column Nursery on Bell Lane in Shrewsbury have asked Shropshire Council for permission to erect a new building in order to provide care for 20 more children.
The new, prefabricated building would measure around nine metres by eight metres, and be situated next to the nursery's car park.
The applicants claim there would be no major works required for the building to be installed and no car parking spaces would be impacted.
The application, submitted by Ian Ellis Limited on behalf of the nursery, said: "The applicants operate a very successful business and are full to capacity.
"Having spoken to existing and potential users as well as having discussions with council officers and Ofsted there appears to be huge demand in providing further facilities on site.
"The building will provide further nursery care and will provide additional care for 20 children.
"The new building is a prefabricated building externally clad in cedar boarding and is commonly seen being used successfully in educational premises."
The proposal is currently open for public consultation, which closes on Monday, December 15. A decision is likely to be made before Monday, January 19.
