Double yellow lines planned to 'deter commuter parking' near Shrewsbury hospital

Parking restrictions are being planned to stop commuters parking near Shrewsbury's hospital and improve road safety.

Shropshire Council has revealed plans to introduce parking restrictions in roads close to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Redwoods Centre.

If approved, double yellow lines would be applied to sections of Carlton Close, Cavendish Close, Florence Close, Haresfield, The Furlongs, Somerby Drive in Bicton Heath.

Limited waiting restrictions are also being proposed on Somerby Drive between 8am and 6pm.

A spokesperson for Shropshire Council said: "The parking restrictions are intended to provide junction protection, deter commuter parking and ensure emergency vehicle access.

"[The plans would] therefore address the road safety and parking issues by preserving visibility, providing an improved flow of traffic and safer access for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists wishing to use the amenities of the area."

The full plans are available to view online at getinvolved.shropshire.gov.uk or in person at Shrewsbury Library during usual opening hours.
