The event is a major fixture of the county calendar.

This weekend will see the return of one of Shropshire’s biggest and most popular events - the county show.

Hosted at the West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury, the entertainment-packed event takes place on Saturday (May 23) bringing together agriculture, entertainment and family attractions for a packed programme of activities throughout the day.

With forecasters predicting hot and sunny conditions, organisers are hoping visitors will enjoy a scorcher as thousands of people prepare to head to the showground.

Show secretary Arthur Hill said anticipation was growing rapidly in the final days before the event.

“Excitement is really building ahead of what promises to be a fantastic day for visitors of all ages,” he said.

“The weather forecast is looking excellent and we are expecting a very busy showground with plenty of people coming along to enjoy everything the show has to offer.

“It’s shaping up to be a brilliant day out for families, farming communities and visitors from across the region.”

This year’s show will feature everything from high-octane arena entertainment to traditional countryside attractions, alongside shopping, food and trade stands.

Headline attractions include the world-famous Stannage Stunt Team, whose spectacular motorcycle displays have earned them three Guinness World Records.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy livestock competitions, falconry displays, shire horses, sheepdog demonstrations and live music throughout the day.

What is the show and how was it created?

The Shropshire County Agricultural Show was created in the late 19th century when it was launched as part of the cooperative venture The Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society.

Since 1875 agriculture has seen massive changes in farming techniques, engine-powered machinery and technology, but the annual show has kept abreast of new trends and continues to showcase the latest initiatives.

The show has been held for an impressive 150 years.

Where is it being held?

The show takes place at the DMOS People West Mid Showground, Berwick Road, Shrewsbury, SY1 2PF.

When does it take place?

The show is on from 9am to 5pm on Saturday, May 23.

How much are tickets and where can I buy them?

Tickets cost £20 for adults, £18 for over 65s, and free for children, if they are bought online - or £22 for adults, £20 for over 65s, and free for children on the gate on the day.

River taxi

People can dodge the traffic and hop aboard the Severn Shuttle for a convenient and speedy ride from Frankwell to the showground. The jetty is near Darwin’s House, a short walk from Frankwell roundabout. Return tickets cost £2.99.

Car parking

A large free car park is available at the showground.

Can I take a dog?

Yes, as long as they are kept on a lead. There is also a dog show they can enter on the day.

Is there disabled access?

The showground is suitable for wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available for hire - but must be ordered in advance by contacting Shropshire Mobility Solutions on 01691 701007 or by visiting their website for more information.

Organisers are keen to remind visitors that the site is an agricultural showground and the terrain can be more difficult in places depending on the weather.

What’s on in the main ring?

The show's main ring in 2026 will host a range of entertainment, including adrenaline-pumping motorcycle action with the Stannage Stunt Team, a shire horse display and the ever-popular Young Farmers floats and livestock grand parade.

The ring - and its entertainment - will be officially opened by Shrewsbury Town Crier Martin Wood with a traditional cry before a day of varied acts take to the huge arena.

What’s on in the Countryside Arena?

The Countryside Arena will be a hive of activity, featuring an array of traditional entertainment, including the FerretWorld Roadshow and mountain bike stunts.

People can watch the animals in action, meet them close up, and chat to their trainers and owners to learn more about them.

The line-up includes sheepdog demonstrations with Steve Longton the Ferretworld Roadshow, amazing stunts from the Extreme Mountain Bike Show, wildlife and falconry displays.

Livestock and equestrian competitions

The sheep, horse and cattle competitions showcase the dedication and skill of farmers, trainers and breeders from across the region.

For seasoned farmers or curious visitors, people will find plenty to admire and learn about the roles animals play in the agricultural world.

The cattle lines are closed to the public during judging but there are plenty of viewing areas to allow people to see the animals.

The cattle lines will open in the afternoon, following judging, but please note no dogs or pushchairs are allowed in the lines at any time.

The Shire Horse Village

The Shire Horse Village will provide an opportunity to enjoy a nostalgic journey to see the workhorses of the past in all their glory as part of the day’s equestrian offerings.

It promises to be a captivating hub of heritage, showcasing the grandeur, strength, and elegance of one of the most iconic draft horse breeds, groomed to perfection and adorned with traditional leather harnesses and brass embellishments as they prepare for competition at the show.

There will be an opportunity to hear about the history, care, and breeding of the animals and view exhibits. Visitors can also see the collection of vintage wagons, carts, and carriages drawn by horses and visit the stalls reflecting rural life through the ages.

The show will include a host of musical and dance acts performing on the bandstand throughout the day.
