Police urged to tackle rising drug activity across Shrewsbury - here's where

Areas of Shrewsbury that are prone to drug dealing have been identified.

West Mercia Police are being asked to look into the hotspots by Shrewsbury Town Council as part of a priorities list from members.

Councillor Rosemary Dartnall said there is drug dealing in a number of locations in her Column and Sutton division.

This includes Springfield Recreation Ground, the area around the footbridge between Pool Rise and Prescott Close, Mansel Williams Way, and on the corner of Primrose Drive and Sutton Lane.

She said it is occurring mostly during the evening and at night, but also on occasions during the day, with dealers "taking cover" under trees.

Meanwhile, Councillor Alex Wagner, who represents Quarry and Coton Hill, said police should target reported drug dealing and anti-social behaviour around the Pig Trough, particularly during evenings when these are often cited as happening by Coton Hill residents.

Councillor Kate Halliday (Belle Vue) also said there is drug dealing occurring from cars on Drawwell Street at around 5pm during the week, while Councillor Rhys Gratton (Harlescott) highlighted York Road, Kynaston Road and the surrounding area as particular hotspots.

Shrewsbury Town Council’s communities and environment committee will discuss the report on Wednesday (April 1).
