Shrewsbury auction centre's largest plant and machinery sale smashes records

The sale saw a record 1,050 entries and a top price of £57,000 achieved on Friday

Records were broken as the largest plant and machinery sale held at Shrewsbury Auction Centre attracted more than a thousand entries.

The sale on Friday (June 5) saw a record 1,050 entries and a top price of £57,000 paid.

The auction and the subsequent timed sale of unsold lots on the MartEye online platform over the weekend saw Halls Auctioneers achieve a clearance rate of 80 per cent.

Top price went to a 2010 Claas Lexion 570+ Montana Combine Harvester with Auto Contour and 25-foot corn header from a south Shropshire farm.

The sale also included an array of implements from Hoof Trimming Ltd’s reduction sale, peaking at £28,500 for a 2023 Kuhn Venta Combi Drill and Power Harrow and £28,000 for both a 2023 Shelbourne Reynolds 3200 muck spreader and a 2019 K-Two Rodeo Compact and Push 200 Compact Trailer.

A late entry of nine vintage tractors and two classic cars – a Jaguar XJS V12 and a 1984 Lotus Eclat – from a north Shropshire collector attracted a lot of interest. The Lotus sold for £3,000.

The auction included 37 tractors, diggers and loaders, 27 ATVs, quad bikes and vehicles, 56 trailers and trailed implements, 280 implements and 660 lots of workshop tools, livestock equipment and building materials.

“It was a fantastic, record-breaking auction, the largest since the days of the former Forton Airfield Machinery Sale,” said Henry Hyde, Halls auctioneer and machinery sales co-ordinator. “Genuine farm machinery continues to make every penny of its money.

“We have started selling unsold machinery in an online timed sale which again proved popular. The 80 per cent overall clearance rate was very pleasing and I would like to thank everyone who attended the sale for their support and custom.
