Severn Valley Railway cancels trains due to heat but it hopes its full-steam ahead for 40s weekend

Services on the heritage line are cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Severn Valley Valley Railway (SVR) has said it has cancelled all trains on Wednesday and Thursday due to the extreme hot weather.

However, the heritage line, which is set to host its popular 40s event at the weekend, says it hopes trains should be up and running by then.

In a statement, SVR said: “Due to the current weather warning regarding the area around the SVR experiencing extreme heat over the coming days, we have taken the decision to cancel services from June 24 to June 25 inclusive.

“Staff and customer welfare is paramount along with protection of our infrastructure and it is felt the risk in the extreme heats forecast, is too high for us to do this.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

“The current plan is that services will resume on Saturday June 27 onwards. This will be subject to review and further updates will be issued later this week.

“Visitors who have pre-booked tickets, will be contacted via email with options available to them. We shall keep our social media and website as up to date as possible throughout the week. https://svr.co.uk.”
