Second phase of huge Oswestry development lodged

The first phase consisted of 284 properties and was approved in November 2022.

The second phase of a huge housing development in Oswestry has been submitted.

Pickstock Homes was granted outline planning permission for up to 600 homes on land north of Shrewsbury Road in April 2020.

The first phase consisted of 284 properties and was approved in November 2022.

Now, plans have been submitted for the second phase of 316 homes, which, if approved, will be a mix of apartments, bungalows and houses.

It is proposed that 33 of the properties will be affordable.

In a design and access statement, ADP say that the continuation of phase one accesses into the phase two development from Shrewsbury Road, and Barber Close will have green buffer frontages.

The firm added that the aim is “to create an inclusive environment” that can be easily used by as many people as possible, and all streets will promote walking and cycling.

“The architectural character responds to its unique physical setting and reflects key attributes of the surrounding area to create a distinct and memorable place,” said a spokesperson for ADP.

“The aim is to create a built form that provides a scale, massing and appearance that will complement the context, creating a distinct and legible townscape.”

The spokesperson added that the development proposes to reduce the use of energy through design features and energy efficient measures, and EV charging will be provided.

“The proposed Pickstock Homes development is in a sustainable and accessible location and the presented scheme demonstrates consideration of the Shropshire core strategy and SPD (supplementary planning documents) for the design of the residential development and its key objectives helping to achieve a quality proposal promoting sustainable inclusive design through efficient use of land and resources, contributing, and integrating into the local character of the area,” said the spokesperson.

“The proposed development is well considered showcasing high-quality sustainable development of residential homes.

“Pickstock Homes have a proven track record of providing good quality aspirational housing which this scheme continues and exhibits these core principles. The proposals effectively complete the overall aspirations of the outline planning permission.”

The application can be viewed by searching for reference 26/01192/REM via Shropshire Council’s planning portal. The consultation period runs until May 6.
