Roadworks confirmed for busy Shropshire route

The work is set to take place later this month.

A major Shropshire route known as ‘the old A5’ will be ‘surface dressed’.

Shropshire Council has confirmed that the work on the B4380 and B5061, which goes from Shrewsbury to Wellington, via Atcham, will take place in several stages.

The B4380 and B5061 from Atcham to Uppington will be treated between Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, May 27.

The first part will be carried out in three phases, when the road will be closed from 9.30am to 4pm on weekdays, and from 6am to 6pm on weekends.

On April 14 the route will be shut from the B4380 and B5061 from Atcham to Uppington for stud removal, and then from May 14 to 17 for surface dressing.

From May 26 to 27 the road will be closed for white lining.

The B4380 from Emstrey Bank End to the junction with the B5061 will then be treated between Tuesday, April 21, and Friday, June 5.

Again the work will be carried out in three phases with the road closed from 9.30am to 4pm on weekdays.

On April 21 the road will be closed for stud removal, before surface dressing from May 20 to 21.

On June 5 a further closure takes place for white lining.

The council said that in both cases the road will have an initial sweep within 24 hours of the new surface being laid.

The sweeper then returns after seven days to remove any residual loose chippings.

The council has also confirmed that access to businesses and attractions in the area, including Attingham Park and the Mytton and Mermaid, will remain open.

A spokesman said: “When roads are closed, Attingham Park will remain open with access via Emstrey Island. Please follow the diversions in place and allow a little extra time for your journey. Businesses in the area – including Home Farm and the the Mytton and Mermaid – will remain open as normal during the works.

The council added that during the closures access to the work areas will be maintained - when safe to do so - for residents living within the closure, businesses located within the closure, pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and equestrians.

For all other traffic a signed diversion will be place and depending on their vehicle type, road users may be able to choose an alternative diversion route.
