Remembrance Sunday plans being firmed up in Builth Wells

Plans for the annual Remembrance Sunday commemorations are being finalised in Builth Wells.

Builth Wells Town Council members were told at the September meeting that the arrangements for the event on Sunday, November 8, will begin with councillors, guests and members of the public meeting at St Mary's Church for a service.

The congregation will then walk to the town's war memorial in the Groe for the laying of the wreaths and the Remembrance Sunday service.

Traditionally, the event is attended by members of various military organisations as well as many groups in the town such as the police, fire service, cadets, and other organisations.

Town clerk Mrs Louise Hammond said Powys High Sheriff Mr William Watkins had asked if he could join the service in Builth Wells this year and members said they would be delighted to see him.

She said refreshments would be served at the Fountain Inn after the service, thanks to Deputy Mayor Councillor Gwyn Davies and his partner Lisa Griffiths.

Members agreed that Mrs Hammond should respond and say the town council would be delighted to welcome him to the event.
