'We hope you’ll come down to drink us dry': Beloved pub to close doors as landlord blames 'rising costs'

The current landlord of the pub said he would be leaving due to ‘rising costs’

The Bridge Inn, on Chirk Bank, Chirk, will close its doors on April 17, due to rising operating costs, and the ‘significant financial burden’ of refurbishment.

The current landlord of the pub announced his departure on Facebook, saying that due to the rising costs of stock, increases in minimum wage, national insurance, and a planned refurbishment, ‘it has become unsustainable’ to continue at The Bridge.

It comes after plans were put into place to revamp the community pub, with hopes set on a new interior and exterior for all to enjoy.

A spokesperson for The Bridge Inn said: “It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our departure from The Bridge Inn.

“Our last day of trading will be Friday, April 17.

“As many of you know, the brewery had planned a refurbishment for this month, but with that comes a significant financial burden.

“Combined with increases in minimum wage, national insurance, and the rising costs of stock, it has unfortunately become unsustainable to continue at The Bridge.”

On Facebook the landlord said: “You’ve made The Bridge a place of great memories, and we hope you’ll come down and help us drink dry before we say our farewells!

“We also hope you’ll show the same warmth and kindness to the new tenants as you’ve shown us. Your support has meant the world, and it’s what we’ll miss most of all.

“Thank you once again, from all of us at The Bridge. Ben & the team.”

Admiral Taverns currently has the venue listed on its website as ‘available’ to a new landlord.
