Tesco and Sainsbury's petrol stations closed as pumps run dry in West Midlands

Two city petrol stations were seen out of fuel and forecourts closed.

Drivers in Wolverhampton looking for fuel were left with fewer options after the closed signs went up on two stations.

The Tesco Superstore on Marston Road and Sainsbury’s Superstore on Raglan Street have both been busy stations in the past few weeks, but were empty on Sunday afternoon.

At Tesco, the pumps had the pump out of use signs on both Unleaded and Diesel pumps, cones up at the entrance and a sign saying “Our Forecourt is currently closed. Our store is open as normal while we work on getting everything back up and running”.

At Sainsbury’s, the same out of use signs could be seen on the pumps, with the front entrance again coned off and a sign saying “No Fuel. Sorry, we have no fuel at the moment and are awaiting our next delivery”.

The two stations are among the cheapest during the current fuel crisis, with Tesco selling unleaded at 141.9p per litre, super unleaded for 150.9p and diesel at 167.9, while Sainsbury’s has been selling at 142.9p for unleaded, 154.9p for super unleaded and 168.9p for diesel.

Sainsbury’s did not comment on the Wolverhampton location specifically but have confirmed they are monitoring their stock levels across the business to resupply where needed.

Tesco has also been contacted for a comment.
