TV star praises Borders canal

TV presenter John Craven has crowned the Llangollen Canal as the best heritage canal in Britain.

The Countryfile presenter also named the canal among his top 10 waterways in the country.

The popular star compiled a list of his 10 favourite canals for the June issue of the monthly Countryfile magazine.

He said he was impressed by the Llangollen Canal, which flows from Wales and connects to the Shropshire Union Canal.

He said travelling along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in a narrowboat had left him and fellow presenter Michaela Strachan almost speechless.

Writing in the magazine, he said the canal was best for heritage, adding: "I can't think of a more exhilarating waterways experience than crossing the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in a narrowboat."
