Several snakes died in a shed fire in Oswestry today following an electrical fault.
Firefighters were called to Chestnut Avenue at 5.30am after the blaze broke out in a brick shed in the back garden of the home.
Christopher Parry, who lives at the address, said he had lost his pet boa constrictor and two corn snakes in the fire.
The fire was out by 6.11am but firefighters said the entire contents of the shed, including £5,000 worth of fishing equipment, had been destroyed.
Mr Parry was treated by paramedics at the scene for shock and smoke inhalation.
He said: "I am upset. I have lost everything.
"I couldn't smell the smoke in the house but I went down to let the dog out and I smelt it. I opened the shed door because I didn't think. All the smoke came out straight away."
Watch manager John Davies said Mr Parry was lucky he was not more seriously injured.
