Shamed Oswestry sex case doctor is struck off

A married GP has been struck off the medical register after a tribunal ruled his 16-month affair with one of his patients at a Shropshire surgery had impaired his fitness to practice.
Shamed Oswestry doctor Simon Robinson has been struck off the medical register for having a relationship with a patient at the surgery where he worked.
Robinson had sexual encounters with patient Jill Tudor in his consulting room at the town's Cae Glas surgery and also at her home.
A General Medical Council disciplinary panel yesterday ruled the GP's fitness to practice was impaired as a result of the encounters which happened during a 16-month affair between July 2009 and November 2010, and the 44-year-old was struck off.
Professor Denis McDevitt, chairman of the disciplinary panel, said: "'The panel does not consider you to have demonstrated significant remorse or insight into your behaviour."
Although mother-of-four Miss Tudor, 50, waived her right to anonymity the GMC referred to her only as Patient A during the hearing and said Robinson's denial of her allegation meant she had to give evidence and to have the recordings of their encounters played at the public hearing.
Professor McDevitt added: "Your interest in the relationship seems to have been essentially sexual gratification and the panel is of the view that the relationship was unequal and exploitative.
"The panel is very concerned about the element of dishonesty in this case. You dishonestly misused professional appointments to pursue your relationship with Patient A, resulting in false medical records."
Robinson maintained he did not have sexual relations with the woman and claimed the recordings were fabricated.
Alison Smith, head of governance at Shropshire County PCT and NHS Telford and Wrekin, said: "The PCT is aware of the outcome of the GMC hearing, and will be working closely with the practice to ensure patients continue to receive a high standard of quality care."
