A woman who made secret tapes of herself allegedly having a fling with her married GP from Oswestry has been accused of 'cobbling' the recordings together to help fabricate a 'fantasy' affair, a disciplinary panel has heard.

The patient was accused of becoming infatuated with family doctor Simon Robinson, 44, making a complaint about him when he would not reciprocate her sexual overtures.

But at the General Medical Council tribunal in Manchester yesterday the woman hit back at the suggestions saying the affair had left her feeling cheap.

The medical council was told that during one six-month period the patient had 28 appointments with the doctor and the following year had 26 consultations – often running to double or triple appointments.

One occasion a member of staff at the Cae Glas Surgery, which has since moved and been renamed, suggested the woman bring sandwiches with her due to the amount of time she spent at the surgery in Oswestry, the tribunal was told.

Yesterday the woman, known as Patient A, denied claims she had tampered with recordings made on a mobile phone.

Defence lawyer Andrew Hockton asked the patient in what circumstances she had made the recordings.

Giving evidence from behind a screen, she said: "I confided in my sons, who were worried about me because this relationship was affecting me and my sons suggested it."

But Mr Hockton suggested Patient A had help from her son in manipulating the recordings. "I have to suggest to you, you tampered with these recordings in particular that you inserted the parts of those recordings which may indicate that sexual activity took place," he said.

Mr Hockton said the patient had become infatuated with Dr Robinson, who denies misconduct, and hoped the relationship would become closer than it was.

The hearing continues.
