Row of 'much-needed' shops is to be built in Oswestry
A new row of "much-needed" local shops will be built at the eastern end of Oswestry after the scheme was approved by planning bosses.
The three shops will be built on Cabin Lane, next to the Eastern Oswestry Community Centre and close to The Meadows primary school.
Shropshire Council has granted permission for the scheme, which will include one large unit and two smaller ones. Parking spaces for 15 vehicles will also be provided, and the shops will have residential units above.
The site was set aside for community facilities in a plan drawn up by the old Oswestry Borough Council in 2007.
Oswestry and District Civic Society has welcome the plans, saying the shops are "much needed in the Cabin Lane area".
Brian Gresham, spokesman for the society, said: "These shops will be an important feature in the community, but it is a pity that the proposed design is rather mundane."
However, other residents have expressed concerns about the impact the shops may have on traffic.
