Plans to build homes on fringe of village near Oswestry resubmitted
Plans to build six new homes on greenfield land in a village near Oswestry have been revealed, four years after a similar scheme was thrown out.
Outline plans to build six new homes on agricultural land in a village near Gobowen have been submitted to Shropshire Council.
It's the second time plans to build homes on the plot of land south of Garside Close in Upper Hengoed will have been considered by the local authority.
In 2022, plans to build eight homes on the site were submitted, but council planners rejected the scheme, stating that further development was restricted in the area.
But now, in the wake of Shropshire Council's housing shortage, the applicant is hoping this scheme will looked upon more favourably.
Shropshire's local plan - an important document outlining future locations for new housing and employment space - was effectively scrapped last year after government planning inspectors raised concerns, mostly about the lack of housing.
With the local authority unable to demonstrate it has enough land earmarked for new homes, any development that is considered "sustainable" is viewed positively, and developers have been submitting a range of proposals across the county in a bid to help fill the void.
At this stage, the Hengoed application is aiming to establish the principle of development for the site - with details and designs finalised in a subsequent application.
But documents suggest that the small development would be made up of three two-bedroom homes and three three-bedroom homes, with two available for social, affordable or intermediate rent.
Under current plans, each home would have two car parking spaces and two spaces would be provided for visitors.
The application, which is open for public consultation until February 2, is available to view online on Shropshire Council's planning portal using reference number: 25/04782/OUT
