5. Having their cake and eating it in Bishop's Castle
In September 1985, members of the Bishop's Castle WRVS Luncheon Club gathered together to mark a very special milestone as they celebrated their first anniversary. To mark the occasion, the group enjoyed a delicious special lunch cooked by Mrs O Cund, topped off with a homemade first birthday cake showcased proudly in the centre of the group shot. 6. Pedal power for church funds in Hadley
Taking the front seat on a vintage 1920s tandem, the vicar of Hadley Parish Church, the Rev Maurice Young, pedals in style during the church’s annual summer fete in July 1985. Enjoying the ride with hands held high was non-pedalling passenger, 13-year-old Neil Thomas from Hadley, as the pair took on an unusual fundraising effort to boost parish funds. Were you at the summer fete or do you remember seeing the vicar's bicycle built for two back in 1985? | Shropshire Star archive

7. Back on track at the Daywell crossing
Local residents near Gobowen were left utterly flabbergasted in late October 1985 when British Rail suddenly shut the Daywell rail crossing without any prior consultation. The surprise barrier left regulars stranded, including self-employed odd job man Stephen Jones, who relied on the route daily to reach his customers. Following a swift wave of local outrage, British Rail quickly changed its mind and agreed to reopen the crossing immediately while assessing the situation. 8. Dressed to impress for the new football season
In November 1985, West Midlands League Division One side Newport Town showed off a stylish upgrade to their kit. Pictured admiring their new strip supplied by Wellington wine bar owner Tony Thacker are, from left, general manager Aled Jones, secretary John Tranter, sponsor Tony Thacker, manager Chris Cadman, and vice president Derek Winkle. Do you recognise any of these local football figures or remember visiting Garret's Wine Bar back in the 1980s? | Shropshire Star archive
